Dr Ralph Keeling (Oxford fellow) will speak on the rising CO2 level in the atmosphere and its effect on Climate Change. The Keeling Curve is a graph of the accumulation of CO2, based on continuous measurements taken at the Mauna Loa Observatory on the island of Hawaii from 1958 to the present day. The curve is named for Charles David Keeling, Ralph’s father, who started the monitoring program and supervised it until his death in 2005. Please register for your free tickets for this very special talk and to reserve a seat for the no-host casual dinner afterwards at a local hostelry, TBA. The evening will commence with a wine reception at 6.00 pm followed by the talk at 6.30 pm and the casual dinner at approx. 8.00 pm.

October’s IvyPlus Mixer will be held at AleSmith, 9990 AleSmith Ct, San Diego, CA 92126. AleSmith offers an selection of craft beers sure to satisfy even the most eccentric of palates. This month’s mixer is hosted by the Oxford & Cambridge Society of San Diego and is open to all IvyPlus alumni and friends. Registration is not essential but is requested in order to get an anticipated headcount for the venue management.

You’re invited to join alumni from Cambridge and Oxford for the Eighth Annual Fall Evening Soirée.
There will be a drinks reception to start. Following that, we will be treated to an Italian themed buffet dinner, with traditional Sherry Trifle dessert, musical entertainment by an alumna-led string quartet, and lots of conviviality.
Guests and friends are most welcome, and a few discounted student tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
This is always a very popular event and space is limited, so early registration is strongly recommended.

After his smash-hit Othello and record-breaking Hamlet, Barry Edelstein returns to the Shakespeare Festival to take on the greatest love story of all time.

The 2019 Shakespeare Festival kicks off with the Bard’s fabulously charming romantic comedy, whose heroine is one of his most remarkable creations. The magical forest of Arden is the play’s famous setting, where a gallery of eccentric characters comes together to find love, fortune, redemption…and themselves. Banished from the court by her deceitful and treacherous uncle, Rosalind disguises herself as a boy, not knowing that the man she loves, also on the run, is behind the next tree. Bucolic Balboa Park is the ideal spot for Shakespeare’s enticing tale of mistaken identity, heartfelt romance, and the endearing fumbles and foibles of love.

Opening Night Performance of Mozart’s Requiem
All alumni and friends are invited to the opening night performance of Mozart’s Requiem presented by the City Ballet of San Diego at Spreckels Theater this May.
This full-company, large-scale contemporary ballet by Elizabeth Wistrich is a brilliant reflection of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s final composition and incorporates the hauntingly beautiful score with dancers, full orchestra, and a large choral ensemble.

Please join us for this ever-popular event and support your University. Cambridge swept the races last year and are anxious for a repeat.

Please register this rematch of the hotly contested Challenge Match of last May against our Harvard/Yale colleagues. The Quiz will again be led by Alejandro Moreno (JD Harvard/LL.M. Cambridge (King’s)), who will endeavor to continue his tradition of including some fiendishly difficult questions along with some easier ones.
Oxbridge just pipped Harvard/Yale at the post last time out, and Harvard/Yale, anxious for retribution, are mounting some strong teams for the new challenge.
We need all the trivia skills we can muster to retain the prize! So please come and support your Alma Mater in their attempt to carry away the prestigious Challenge Belt.

US Leaders – How They Have and Will Benefit from Education Overseas
Dr. Elizabeth H. Simmons (Churchill, 1985) is the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of California San Diego. In this capacity, she serves as UC San Diego’s chief academic officer and is responsible for policies and decisions relating to all academic programs and curriculum, instructional support programs, and faculty appointments and performance. She is UCSD’s second-ranking executive officer. Dr Simmons is a theoretical high-energy physicist whose research focuses on the origins of the masses of the elementary subatomic particles.
